This week we’ve got a double review since I was out of commission with back pain last week. Which also conveniently gives me a chance to compare 2 buds side by side; summertime breeze & monster cookies from Sweedy.

We’ll start with monster cookies, the more expensive of the two. While it looks pretty enough it was sadly lacking. The taste & stone lacked anything unique & were quite bland. Subtle earthy tones got lost mingled with generic spicy/pepper undertones & didn’t create much of an impression. The stone was moderately strong but again was middle of the road; some body combined with a bit of head but muddled and without much character. I didn’t find it particularly helpful for pain relief or mood elevation. My end impression is that it’s a cross of popular strains that reflects the inbred nature of the gene pool; overly bland & lacking in quality.

While this was rated lower then the showy bud above it left more of an impression. Like the monster cookie it also needed some cleaning up, both were trimmed to a mid grade level. Having a lower leaf to calyx ratio meant it was easier to clean up to reveal the looser bud structure showing it’s “sativa” influence. The stone was a nice uplifting buzz that got the heart racing. Higher doses created the familiar edge of anxiety typical of stimulating strains (a.k.a sativa dominant). It had distinct citrus notes with a sweet & bitter subtleties that reminded me of grapefruit. Between the two it was definitely the better buy in my opinion; a more distinct flavour with an interesting stone that’s different from the typical head mashing, sleep inducing strain & it costs less.

Which is why I’ve learned to keep a diary of the strains I smoke & grow.  It’s always good to ask which are worthwhile and which are just another average hybrid with more hype the heft to them.  If you’re like most and have a horrible memory then keeping a diary makes it a lot easier to remember after the fact which really stand out. Check out the Goldleaf taster’s journal here if you want to record them in style. For a more in depth look at them check out my review of them here.

That’s it for today ramblings, thanks for reading and until next time Keep it green.
